Great challenge for a humid, hot mid-day ride. The car park is HUGE!! Arriving during a prime event time slot, parking so far from the trailhead has its drawbacks, but I’m sure earlier in the morning will find parking closer would be easier. The trail payment booth was a little obscure, but once found it made perfect sense. Being my first time there I was hoping to find a trail map, just so that I could understand the lay of the land and look for landmarks that would help me understand my vicinity a little better, fortunately I am familiar with the residential/business area adjacent so once I reached that part of the trails, I was able to orientate myself. Once on the routes the signage on the route is spectacular, and large enough to see from quite a distance which made preparation for direction changes very easy. The trails are awesome, especially after the heavy rainfall that we have experienced over this last week, in general the trails are hard with a few water and muddy sections, but that is why we mountain bike,

There is a fair amount of working going into the trails at Taroko and it’s becoming a regular go to ride for me.

Great area, nice trail. I hear it is muddy during the rainy season. My first time there. Clearly marked (with the odd arrow burnt away). Not too technical. A bit confusing at the start of the single track: green and orange arrows used to Mark trail distances are also used to Mark and A and B line with the "shorter" colour being used as the A line versus the easier B line being directed by the "longer" route marker. Great coffee and Breakfast bun at the end.

Really nice new sections added in the last few months. Good mix of trails. Gets very muddy when there's rain.

TOROKO TRAILS also know as Modderfontein Reserve.. is one of my favourite places to ride, they have it all. An awesome trailhead/bike store, when riding on weekends a fully fledged market!! Tons of parking and lots of trails. Trails are as follows Orange – 10km Green – 20km Yellow – 30km Red – 40km Kiddies Track Pump Track Enduro Lines – Coming And take you any ware from serene views of the park to some pretty knarly sections and old school uninhabited houses and tunnels super epic.. all in all a great day out. Tips when traveling to Toroko Trails, do not enter on the Modderfontein Reserve side as there can be a huge traffic bottleneck rather enter at the Toroko Trails gate which is hidden behind a few warehouses.

One of my favourite trails in Gauteng. The new green route has an awesome mix of technical, flat and climb sections. The shorter route is good for beginners/less experienced riders. Routes are very well marked and they do constant trail maintenance. The coffee shop at Trailwolf makes excellent coffee for after the ride while the bike shop does a clean/lube/etc. Staff is always super friendly and helpful.

Mix of jeep track and single track. Generally easy with a challenging section along the river. Plenty of opportunity to practice rock riding too.

Horrible trail maintenance. It would be great if they bothered to maintain it. I did prefer it when the trail direction was in reverse. Also if you want a post ride drink or meal you need to pay entrance fee to the market, surely they can allow riders and runners with a valid ticket free entry.

Easy riding with a few single track forest sections. Can also find good rock riding sections here.

Very muddy currently making it really challenging. These trails give you a bit of everything. Easy parts, climbs, technical single tracks, fast flowing tracks, forests and eerie ruins.

Been riding Taroko regularly for the last year and a bit. Awesome trails with various options for distance and difficulty. Staff at the trailhead and local cycle shop (Trailwolf) are very friendly and helpful
