Cradle of human kind, is definitely a local favorite that has a ton to offer. It is a not only a scene for Roadies but for mountain bikers too, with lots of hop on and off points along the way. As a road rider, you can pretty much cycle from anywhere in the northern suburbs of JHB to cradle, once there there are a few route in and about.. Alas if you get lots just follow one of the hundreds of riders that ride there every weekend. As an MTB rider you can follow the cut single track that follows the road in a loop fashion, or jump off and ride cradle moon, Avianto or kings. After the ride there are about 5 really decent eateries around so you will never go hungry or thirsty. To add there is lots of secure parking in and around the cradle, certain venues offer paid parking too

The loop is a great workout, 30km and about 450m of climbing. Not very technical and has a nice flow. During heavy rains the trail can become a bit rutted. Keep an eye out for the vervet monkeys, occasional warthog family, and if you’re lucky you can see the rhinos grazing on the mountain in the park. Road is packed with cyclists on the weekends, MTB trail is usually pretty quiet. Feel very safe even as a woman riding solo. Parking at Bidon Bistro with lots of options for post ride snacks. The loop is my regular ride. Add a quick road mission to Sterkfontein caves and back for an extra 15km on your ride.

Great trail with some fast flowing single track and nice long steady climbs.

Fast, flowing single track in a one-way loop. Open to all. Easily accessible and quick to complete.
Follows mostly just off the road but feels out in the country.

Flowing, fast and fun trail. Offers good climbing overall. Technically easy so enjoyable for all. Fun downhill sections.

It’s almost ‘rain’ proof. A few ruts to keep you awake and aware?. Over all a good work out with the perfect balance for a quick 30km, with the ability to add a few tar sections to extend.

This MTB trail will need a little bit more experience. It cannot be under estimated. There are segments which are narrow and will need an experienced rider. The elevation is great if you want to have a good training ride.

We chose this trail as it is a 29km loop of 100% Singletrack, and after the hectic rains, it really was in good condition

This is a great trail, challenging and thrilling and really well maintained. Although it runs parallel to the local roads, it is fun and more so when you challenge a roadie, gravel v tar.

Cradle loop, good workout ride! Saturdays and Sunday mornings is best time to ride. Would not advise riding during the week or alone.
